Removal of Urine Stains and Odor Caused by Your RagaMuffin Kittens

First Remove the Stain

All cats, including RagaMuffin kittens and RagaMuffin cats, can have accidents that leave urine or vomit stains and odor behind.  It is very important to remove the stain as soon as you discover the spot, especially if it is urine, because you want to prevent your RagaMuffin Cats and RagaMuffin kittens from going back to the same spot and repeating the unwanted behavior.  There are some products that work against both stain and odor at the same time, but there are some useful home remedies for removal of odor that can actually "set" the stain.  An example of this is using vinegar.  Vinegar is used when making colored Easter eggs or tied-dyed shirts in order to set the color.  You sure do not want to use it to set the urine stain.  Another thing to avoid is any type of steam cleaning, as this has the tendency to set the stain as well.

Blot up as much of the urine as you can.  There are several products you can use for removal of stains.  Blending baking soda and water to make a paste will help in removal of stains.  Rub the paste deep into the stain and let sit for an hour, then brush with a soft brush.  Use some water on the spot, so that you can extract the baking soda paste.  A handheld wet vac is very handy to have on hand to extract the stains (and odor).  Bissell makes a very handy handheld wet vac.

There are a few other products that are useful for removing stains and odors.  For removal of stains, one product that works pretty well is OxyClean, though you may have to use the product a few times and having a handheld wet vac extractor is really invaluable because you want to remove all the liquid.

There are two main products to remove urine odors (and stains). There are products that are enzymatic cleaners.  These type of cleaners use bacteria that basically eat the bacteria causing the odor.  They break down the uric acid in the urine into carbon dioxide and ammonia, and these gases then evaporate.  Spray the area liberally (you want to soak the area) and let the cleaner sink in for 15 to 20 minutes.  Blot up, or preferably use a wet vac extractor to remove as much liquid as possible.  This process of removing the odor will be finished when the area is completely dry.  You may have to repeat the procedure.  If using an enzymatic cleaner, do not use other cleaning products at the same time, because there are some products that will actually deactivate the enzymes that are necessary to get rid of the odor.  Many of these enzymatic cleaners also include stain removal properties.  There are many that are recommended.  Anti Icky Poo gets very good reviews.  The enzymatic cleaners can sometimes take weeks to work.  The smell may actually get worse at the outset, but that is pretty typical of enzymatic cleaners.

Another type of product that is used and found to be very effective on stains is called Fizzion.  It uses carbon dioxide cleaning technology to quickly remove stains and odors.  There are many positive reviews on this product.  However, you have to get rid of the uric acid to get rid of the odor and it is not clear how carbon dioxide cleaning products do that, though it is worth a try.  It will get the stain out quickly.

Removal of the Odor From Hard Surfaces

Removal of the Odor

To remove urine odor from hard surfaces, such as tile and wood floors, clean up as much of the urine as possible.  You have several choices when treating hard surfaces.  You can use an enzymatic cleaner.  After leaving the product on the hard surface for about 15 minutes, wipe up any liquid.  You can also mix hydrogen peroxide and water and spray on the area for removal of the odor (be sure to test for color-fastness first).  Another option with hard surfaces is to use vinegar because it neutralizes the smell of cat urine.  Vinegar is an acid that neutralizes the alkaline salts that form in dried urine stains.  Mix one part vinegar to one part water and apply to walls and hard floors.  Adding a bit of baking soda to this mixture can help in its ability to eliminate the cat urine odor.  Remember with wood floors, you do not want to leave anything wet on the floor too long.

The proper steps to effectively remove urine or vomit stains and odor are especially important for RagaMuffin breeders, as RagaMuffin cats that have not been neutered or spayed will likely mark, so the RagaMuffin breeder needs to stay on top of ridding the area of the odor and of course no one wants their carpet or furniture to be stained.
